Score My Food reads nutrition information from a photo of a food product, checks it against public food databases where possible, and produces a score reflecting how well that food fits the goals and restrictions you entered. Scores are computed by fixed rules from nutrition values.
In order of priority: the nutrition panel printed on the pack as read from your photo; a barcode match in the authoritative food database for your country; a database match by product name; and for unpackaged food, standard reference values. Each report names the source it used and links to the record. Any of these can be wrong, incomplete or out of date.
In the United States that is USDA FoodData Central. Elsewhere it is the Open Food Facts instance for your market, including India, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and most of Europe, because local instances carry far better coverage of local products. Products contributed by other people using the app may also be used where public databases have no record. Coverage, accuracy and update frequency differ from country to country, and no database is guaranteed to be current for any product.
Scores are calculated per serving. Where a pack declares a serving, that is used. Where no serving is declared, which is common outside the United States, a serving is worked out from the pack size or from a typical portion for that type of food, and the report tells you when this has happened. An assumed portion is an estimate, not a measurement, and you should check it against the pack before relying on the score.
The app provides general information only. It is not medical, nutritional, dietetic or health advice, is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition, and does not replace consultation with a qualified professional. No doctor-patient, dietitian-client or other professional relationship is created by your use of it.
Never rely on this app to decide whether a food is safe for an allergy or intolerance. Photo reading can fail, databases can be wrong, and manufacturers change recipes without notice. Always read the physical package label yourself, every time. If you cannot confirm a food is safe, do not consume it.
If you have or suspect any medical condition, including diabetes, celiac disease, hypertension, kidney or liver disease, phenylketonuria, cardiovascular disease, an eating disorder or a food intolerance, or if you are pregnant, nursing, elderly, immunocompromised or choosing food for an infant or child, consult a physician or registered dietitian before making dietary decisions. Scores cannot account for your full medical picture, medications or interactions.
Never disregard or delay professional medical advice because of anything in this app. If you experience a severe allergic reaction or any medical emergency, follow your emergency plan, use epinephrine if prescribed, and call your local emergency number immediately.
The app is designed for consumable human food and beverages and declines anything else, including medicines, vitamins, supplements, cosmetics and pet food. Do not use it for those purposes.
If you turn on location, your approximate position is converted to a city and postal code on your device, and only that coarse label is sent when comparing prices. Exact coordinates never leave the phone and are not stored. You can switch to typing a ZIP, or turn location off, at any time.
If you choose to share a product's details, we store the food facts you provide: product name, brand, serving size, nutrition values, ingredients and allergens, together with a one-way hash of a device identifier used only to prevent duplicate and abusive submissions. We never store or share your profile, your goals, your health information, your scores or your identity. A product is only served to other users as confirmed once two independent devices agree on it. You can turn sharing off at any time in Settings; previously shared food facts remain in the shared database because others rely on them.
If you record health conditions in a profile, that information stays on your device and is used only to adjust which nutrients the score weighs. It is never transmitted to us, never used for advertising, and never shared. You can remove it at any time by editing the profile.
Profiles, scan history and preferences are stored on your device. Photos you scan are transmitted for automated analysis and are not retained after the result is returned. Product and price lookups query third-party services. Feedback you choose to send is transmitted to the developer. No profile or health information is sold, and no advertising is targeted using it.
Some screens show clearly labelled sponsored placements and some retailer links may earn the developer a commission. These never influence a score, are never targeted using your health goals or allergies, and are filtered so they do not conflict with allergies or diets you have entered.
Prices, purchase links and database records come from third parties. The developer does not control, verify or endorse that content and is not responsible for it, including its accuracy, availability or any transaction you enter into with a third party.
The free plan includes 20 foods to begin with, and 2 more each month afterwards, and a subscription includes 150 a month, renewing automatically each month until cancelled; after cancellation, access continues to the end of the period already paid for. Everything already scanned remains viewable without a subscription. The unit is a food, not a photograph: reading one product from several photos of it, or re-reading it after a correction, counts once. Up to three photographs may be used for one food. A ceiling of 40 foods in a single day applies to every plan to prevent automated misuse; ordinary shopping never reaches it.
Use the app only for lawful personal purposes. Do not misuse it, attempt to reverse engineer it, scrape it, resell its output commercially, or rely on it in any setting where an error could cause injury.
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that any information it produces is accurate or complete.
You use the app entirely at your own risk and are solely responsible for decisions you make. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of health, profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the app in the preceding twelve months or ten US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, fraud, death or personal injury where such limitation is prohibited by law.
You agree to indemnify and hold the developer harmless from claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the app or your violation of these terms or applicable law.
These terms may be updated; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance, and material changes will be presented for renewed consent. Access may be suspended or discontinued at any time.
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to accept these terms. If you are choosing food for a child, a responsible adult must make the final decision.
These terms are governed by the laws of the developer's place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable consumer law grants you rights to another forum.
